Main Distribution Frame Location: 2nd floor, North side (MDF has fire walls on all sides)
Riser Shafts: middle of building, stacked (TC's have fire-rated walls on all sides)
Work Stations: 255 per floor with 3 CAT 5 drops each (765/floor = 3,060 total)
Horizontal Cable Run: "STAR" Distribution - 150 feet average (TC to WS)
Horizontal Cable Run: ZONE Cabling - 75 feet average (ZCTC TO WS)
Distance Between Floors: 17 ft.
Note: In this example, Zone Cabling reduces the cost of a MAC by 59% as compared to the Distribution Method. These savings are due to the following:
- Fire Stopping - $50.00 per cable penetration (reduces material cost by 50% on the average).
- Cable reuse - About 45% of cable can be re-routed for re-use.
- Labor - Zone Cabling Termination Cabinet allows shorter cable runs for MAC's, thereby reducing labor costs.
Using this building structure assumption, the old Distribution Method of cabling (with an annual churn rate of 45% to 50%), the cost for MAC's would be $462,672.00. Utilizing Zone Cabling and the ZCTC, the cost for the same MAC's would be $191,403.00. This represents a savings of $271,268.00.
